John Dunsworth was a Canadian film and television actor. He starred as “Jim Lahey” on the mockumentary series Trailer Park Boys, and as “Dave Teagues” on the drama series Haven. His film credits include Stuck (2007), Cloudburst (2011), and Swearnet: The Movie (2014). John Francis Dunsworth was born on April 12, 1946, in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada. His parents were Frank and Frances. He was 1 of 10 children. Dunsworth was raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He studied acting at the University of Guelph but dropped out before completing a degree.
CAREER
Dunsworth appeared in several CBC radio dramas, and stage productions at the Neptune Theatre. He co-founded the alternative theater company ‘Pier One Theatre’ in Halifax in 1971. He founded ‘Filmworks Casting Agency’ in 1987 where he served as a casting director. He also tried politics, as seen in the documentary short John Dunsworth: The Candidate (1988). Dunsworth’s first on-screen role was as “Dennie” in the short film, So Long to Run (1978). Other early film appearances include Deep Sea Conspiracy (1987) and Buried on Sunday (1992). He appeared in the TV films The Little Kidnappers (1990), Life with Billy (1993), and Mary Silliman’s War (1993). Dunsworth met television director Mike Clattenburg in the mid-1990s. He was cast as “Jim Lahey” in his short film One Last Shot (1998). That role earned him an award for best performance at the Atlantic Film Festival.
Dunsworth starred as “Jim Lahey” in Clattenburg’s comedy series Trailer Park Boys. He appeared in 11 seasons from 2001 to 2017. The main cast also includes Robb Wells, John Paul Tremblay, and Mike Smith.
